It's pretty late and I am lying in my bed with the lights off and watching Roseann. I wish Amit was home with me, though he is a paramedic and does it for a living so his hours are never the same. Granted his shift is a 10 hour shift (will its suppose to be ) it never ends up that way. It's almost like 12 -13 hour shit.
Being a Medic (Paramedic ) is not all that its cracked up to be ( have you ever wondered what honestly "Cracked up to be" really means ? LOL ) If you need a man who is going to be home at a certain time every day, I do not suggest dating or marring a Paramedic.. because that is a VERY rare occasion that he is EVER home at a normal time. It's just like being married to a MD.
Working/Volunteering on a community Ambulance is different then working on a private ambulance company. When working/volunteering on a community ambulance most calls last no more then an hour if that. Unless there is some serious crises that needs more time and attention. So if anything you may be an hour late. Now with a private ambulance that is a whole other story .. Your call can last an hour or 4 hours. It all depends on where they are sending you and where you are going. Amit can drive over 400 miles a day if needed. They will have him from one end of the Island ( I live on Long Island ) to just about out of NYC. Back and Forth.
Believe it or not, even though we are EMT's it does not always matter to those who we care for and for the ones we "work" with. My boyfriend once had to drop a patient off at a facility, though this pt wanted a private room, this room was not available and because the room was not available the pt wanted to leave and go back to where he came from. ( Granted this place was over an hour away ) on top of the fact that it was my boyfriends last hour of his shift and this patient did not care!
Therefore as you can see being a Medic/EMT is not a "normal" 9-5 job. It's 24 hours and it never seems to end.
